To his personal groove

Meet Tony:

Tony Viegas is a first-generation Portuguese-Canadian from Bradford, Ontario. He’s worked in construction for over 30 years and is now a person living with Parkinson’s. "My wife, Kristine, first noticed that I was writing really slow...I was having trouble socializing and unable to make full facial expressions" Tony recollects. He received his diagnosis shortly after. Despite the initial shock, Tony remains optimistic about the future.

Always close, these experiences have allowed Tony’s tight knit family to grow even tighter, providing him with invaluable support. "I would say as a family we are much stronger now; we live for today and plan for the future.  We make sure to spend more time together and check in that we are both well,” said Kristine. She has been a champion for her husband, becoming deeply involved in the Parkinson's community. This includes her leading role organizing the Newmarket, Ontario SuperWalk and support groups that help countless people like Tony.

With unwavering support from his family, Tony is navigating his journey with boldness and at his own pace. For people living with Parkinson's Tony offers this advice "...just take it day-by-day, connect with your family and friends. Don’t feel ashamed to tell people that you have it."

Tony is living life at his own rhythm, excited to see what the future brings.
